Daily Mail Woes: Seems to be a constant source of frustration for my clients AND it’s relentless!

Summer has arrived-I saw that we are supposed to hit 98 degrees on Thursday! Wow!

If you are receiving this newsletter for the first time, an OFFICIAL WELCOME! If this information is not interesting to you, please take a second to unsubscribe and you won’t receive any other communications from here on out.

This month I wanted to bring a few common, easy remedies to you to help mitigate the piles of mail that might be surrounding you.  This seems to be a common challenge for a lot of folks that I see.

Good luck staying cool and wishing you the best as you wrangle your mail piles!

Warmly (pun intended),
Colette

Daily Mail is a source of frustration in many households I’ve worked in. Typically, if there’s not a system that helps to “process” it, the house can become filled with random piles strewn about. The clutter factor is problematic but also the fact that the mail never gets opened and dealt with is another major problem for folks.

First Step:
Get a basket or some container that EVERYONE who brings in mail, now knows THIS is the new MAIL BASKET.
Stay true to this category folks, don’t start throwing random bits into this basket, as that will MOST DEFINITELY hinder you from wanting to engage with it. There’s high potential already you won’t want to engage with it…

It would be ideal if this basket lived close to the recycling center in your kitchen, but another good place would be near the entrance of your home that you use all the time.

Second Step:
Often I will suggest a remedy of a staggered file holder to sit near the mail basket. This will be a helpful processing tool to help categorize the mail when you get spare moments to do so. Inside the holder, it’s ideal to get a few different file folders to hold different categories. Some universal categories would be:

1. Action Items
2. Bills to Pay
3. Contacts to Input later
4. To File
5. To Read Later
6. Paid Bills
7. A file for each child you have
8. One for you
9. One for your spouse

Make sure to pick some pretty file folders that speak to you and your home aesthetic so it doesn’t feel like an eyesore…

Third Step:
It’s helpful to try and set an ongoing time to go through your mail at least once a week. Daily, would be helpful, but sometimes not realistic. At least it’s all in the same place though!!

A good way to get into a habit with it, is to do it after or before something you already do, ie: working out, getting back from dropping kids off, lunch, etc. Put it in your calendar for a few weeks to remind yourself of this new habit you are trying to instill.

Fourth Step:
Consider going paperless on as many items as you feel comfortable with. All your bills can be seen electronically and to set up auto payments allows you the freedom of not having to worry about paying a bill on time.

Perhaps you can opt out of Credit Card offers, here’s that info:

To opt out for five years: Call 1-888-567-8688 or visit www.optoutprescreen.com

Fifth Step:
Ensure your partner is on board with all of these systems BEFORE you implement them, otherwise, all this work might be for nothing. Buy in as a team will help the system work.

If any of those steps felt daunting or you have any project in your home that is creating a sense of dread, please consider giving me a call. I’m happy to support you by providing guidance, emotional support, and laughter while creating the sanctuary you are hoping for.

I LOVE THIS WORK AND AM ADDICTED TO COMPLETION!
