Let’s talk about efficiency and how it will benefit your home and life.

Happy March Everyone!

I’m writing to you on this snowy day, hopefully you are cozy and enjoying the beauty of it all.

Lately, I’ve been doing a lot of client sessions that have included discussion around the concept of efficiency. I’d like to share some thoughts and remedies on how you can be more efficient specifically in your kitchen.

Here’s the definition of Efficiency:

The ability to accomplish a task with the LEAST WASTE OF TIME AND EFFORT.

Often times, I’m trying to adjust client’s homes to be the most efficient possible as it creates a new ease in many ways, especially inside the kitchen. This past month, I’ve had the pleasure of reorganizing/setting up kitchens for three clients and that’s got me all jazzed up about the importance of this concept, and wanting to share it with you all.

Inside kitchens, some of the biggest obstacles I see for efficient cooking are:

  • Inventory that is used once a year yet is living in the day to day living space of your kitchen. Get that stuff out of there!!!! Right now! Put all the holiday gear into a nice safe plastic bin and get it in the garage, basement, or attic. Once a year frequency should be far away from your day to day living. Clearing this category will help open up new space for more breathing room for your day to day flow.
  • TOO MUCH INVENTORY OF ONE CATEGORY which usually creates a lot of stacking and wildly INEFFICIENT ACCESSIBILITY. In my world view, you NEVER want to be digging underneath anything. The pans you use daily should have their very own position and ideally, it’s an easy reach in for it. Here’s an example of what NOT TO DO:

This is more of what I’m hoping you experience in your own kitchen:

LACK OF ORGANIZED STRUCTURE inside a drawer for cooking utensils or random kitchen gadgets. Folks usually have the mindset to have a silverware tray, but more often than not, that is NOT the case with the rest of the drawers. Here’s an example of a drawer with zero structure:

Here’s a structured drawer that serves up efficiency like a dream come true. I’m also really loving the concept of painting the inside of the drawers fun colors and then doing the transparent dividers. FUN!!!

I’m also a HUGE FAN of a canister holding cooking utensils near the stove so an easy grab can allow for CRAZY efficiency while cooking. No opening a drawer, hunting through the multitude of utensils until you find the right one. Just Reach and Grab. I like this one specifically due to it’s divided areas and the fact that it spins. Nice.

Efficiency in your kitchen can make cooking so much more enjoyable for you. This is a great room to start experiencing life with efficiency and ideally, it will start to permeate into other areas of your home.

If all of that sounds like you would rather poke a pencil in your eye, please give me a call and allow me to guide your home into a state of pure efficiency. No jokes-it’s my jam.

If you are a current client of mine and have some hours you want to schedule with me,

In gratitude,
